HISTORY

Realize the Dream

God’s Revelation: God revealed to Pastor Richmond Edwards a vision for His people. A group of people met for prayer and praise on the vacant lot of Sis Hattie Jones on Monday, May 12, 2003. The Lord spoke and told us to find a place of worship. That week, prayer continued. On that following Sunday, Worship began at the Airport TraveLodge in Kenner.

GOD' SEED OFFERING

As a part of Bishop Eddie Long's Father's House, a pastoral care ministry of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church of Atlanta, Elder Monte Campbell and his assistant Elder Drake were sent to minister to us during that first week for the “Word of Fire” Revival. They came with a seed offering of $5000.00 from Bishop Eddie Long to aid in the launching of this ministry. That week also Pastor Charles of 1st Baptist in Paradis and Pastor Wilson of Sweet Home encouraged us through their messages of hope and perseverance.

GOD REVEALS PURPOSE

In the spring of 2004, the entire church was divided into small groups to study The Purpose Driven Life through the 40 Days of Purpose. This was an exciting time in the Body of Christ. We studied together from LaPlace to New Orleans originating at Young’s Place on California Avenue.. Ministries were birthed, our membership grew and all were encouraged to “Walk in God’s Five Purposes.”

AFTER THE STORM

God Allowed Hurricane Katrina. When Hurricane Katrina struck we were left without a building for worship. Upon returning home, on September 11, 2005, we started services with only 12 members at Pastor and Lady Debra’s home. As people returned to the area, so did our worship attendance. We increased from 12 to over 100 members with adult worship down stairs and children/youth worship upstairs.

A KNOCK AT THE DOOR

God Sends a Sheriff Deputy: On July 16, 2006, the Deputy knocked on the door during service because of the abundance of cars parked on the street. The St. Charles Sheriff's Department offered the use of their Fraternal Order of Police Building. On July 25, 2006, we began services at that location.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

God’s Gift of a Permanent Home: After much prayer, praise and worship, believing God for a permanent home, on December 27th, 2006, Pastor Edwards, Richmond J. Edwards III, Lynette Jones and Herman Edwards went to the Act of Sale for own present campus. Services began New Year's Eve Morning and Evening. We acquired a house of worship and two additional buildings. Building 2 houses REJOICE, Inc, New Birth’s offices, conference room and classrooms. Building 3, the Gathering House is our multi-purpose fellowship space.

A TIME TO CELEBRATE

During the entire month of June, 2007, we celebrated our 4th Anniversary and the Consecration and Dedication of the New Birth Cathedral of Glory Rivertown Campus with Bishop Jerry Henry of Dominion and Power Ministries presiding. In three years, we had 3 buildings at 301 Clay Street. August 16, 2010 the Gathering House renovations were completed through a grant from the Sea Coast Association of New Jersey, Pastor Terrence Porter and Pilgrim Baptist Church of. Northern New Jersey, our contributions of our members. We began hosting church functions and allowing event space rental.

GIVE AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN BACK TO YOU

God Blesses the Next Seven Years: Since its inception in January 2003, our nonprofit outreach, REJOICE, Inc. has served over 3,000 families, churches and schools, the community, and continues to serve. Post Katrina, over $200,000 worth of food, supplies and equipment were received and shared with the community. For five summers a successful and enriching summer empowerment camp was held. God blessed us with the support of many organizations. Through this support we were able to bless the community with free school supplies, school uniforms for needy children, cleaning supplies, food, clothing, furniture, paint, house gutting, Thanksgiving and Christmas giving projects, counseling, tutoring and many other services. For the past two years, we have partnered with Proclaiming Christ Ministries to hold a city-wide Back-to-School Day that offers families what their children need to begin the school year. Book grants are also given on our Back-to-School Sunday to our new and returning college students.
